On December 16, the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) at the University of Macau successfully held the 4th Postdoc, Research Assistant Professor (RAP), and Macao Young Scholars Seminar. Organized by the Postdoc & RAP Studies Committee, the event provided a platform for researchers supported by the University’s talent programs, including RAPs, postdoctoral fellows, and Macao Young Scholars, to share and exchange their annual progress and research outcomes.

Deputy Dean Prof. Lu Jiahong delivered an opening address, affirming the young scholars’ work and encouraging them to make full use of the institute’s high-quality research platform, engage in scientific exploration in Chinese medicine, and contribute to Macao’s development while enjoying the journey of science.

Chaired respectively by Prof. Li Chihua, Yuan Jing, Zhang Shaoyi, and Yan Ru, the seminar featured 18 presentations from young scholars (8 RAPs, 2 postdocs, and 8 Macao Young Scholars). The talks covered a wide range of topics, including the mechanisms of Chinese medicine, novel drug delivery systems, biomarker discovery, nanobiotechnology and bioorthogonal chemistry, as well as computational pharmacology and drug design. Research highlights spanned from the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine, such as clinical biomarker exploration for herbal-induced kidney injury and immunomodulatory effects of compound formulations on liver fibrosis, to innovative applications of advanced biotechnologies in treating tumors, atherosclerosis, and inflammatory bowel diseases. The seminar also showcased interdisciplinary advances in AI and real-world data for pharmacovigilance, as well as computational modeling of mRNA-lipid nanoparticles.
The presentations were insightful and substantive, reflecting the innovative vitality and international perspective of ICMS’s young researchers. Attendees showed strong interest in the work presented and engaged in lively discussions during the Q&A sessions, offering valuable feedback.
The seminar not only provided a platform for young scholars to present and exchange ideas but also fostered a collaborative and interdisciplinary academic atmosphere within the institute, injecting new momentum into the heritage and innovation of Chinese medical research.
